What blenny should I get?

9 July 2009 Comments

I have a 20 gallon tall, crushed coral substrate,FOWLR, 2 Baby Ocellaris Clownfish, 1 Red-Orange Firefish.

I would like to get a blenny.
Would I be able to get a Scooter Blenny?
If not, what kind?

snail is right…a 20 gallon cannot house enough rock to keep a sustainable population of copepods and amphuipods to keep a mandarin healthy (scooter "blennys" are mandarin fish just like the mandarin and psychedelic gobies)

a bi-color, eyelash, or flametail blenny would be fine in a 20 tall though… your tank would be full then

Since you DO HAVE live rock (FOWLR) the scooter blenny would be a cool fish to add. Lawnmower Blennies are also good fish as they will sometimes eat algae that grows in the tank (hence the name Lawnmower).

    Good luck with your tank.

No. Scooter Blennies are difficult to care for. They also need live rock to survive. Most other blennies need at least 30 gallons.
