What should I add to my 125g sw tank?

16 November 2008 Comments

I already have in there over 100 pounds of live rock, crappy lighting, 3 cc starfish, 2 brittles, a few snails, 1 naso tang, 1 spotted hawkfish, 4 clowns, 1 blue devil damsel, and that is it…

I’m not sure what I should add next. My LFS are very limited and way too over priced… so I wanted to get a list ready so I could purchase some off line. The order needs to be relatively big though. I know I can go for more snails, but that really is not going to be enough. I was also looking for "hardier" fish, as this tank is at my business, and I don’t get to see the tank on some weekends. (I have a 72 at my house that I DO see every day that gets way more attention.)

Suggestions?! PLEASE? I would really like to add some new babies to my tank soon.
I don’t want to add corals any time soon to this tank due to the fact that I am away from it. Also, it is a gymnastics school, with lots and lots of little kids. So, I just think corals would be a bad idea. (That’s why I didn’t worry about adding so many CC starfish.)

Also, anything that MAY eat another fish would be bad. I don’t need customers getting angry that their children saw one of my fish eat another. (This actually already happened, and is why I am staying away from Triggers!)

And, aren’t Angels a little finicky when it comes to eating… and easily stressed out?

PS I have enough flow, and a sump with a canister filter, so the filtration/flow isn’t a problem
Mars Hill, is there anyway you can message me or something? I love all of your ideas, I think I am definitely going to get a couple of gobies. I wanted to see if you knew any more about that butterfly? I can’t get the others because my clowns are clarkiis, and they kill smaller fish. (I had a royal gramma in there… they tossed him.)

You could always try an angelfish, such as a flame angel. I also recommend a bluejaw trigger. Despite the fact that bluejaws are a species of trigger, they are rarely aggressive and often become somewhat attached to their owner.

If you don’t see the tank that much filtration and lighting is the thing i would add so that you could add coral and inverts latter
be careful let the old filter work while the new one gets astablished.

A school of Chromis (3, 5, 7, etc.) would make a cool display, along with a small group of Spotted Cardinalfish, or a pair of Heniochus. If you want to add a splash of color, a Flasher Wrasse or Royal Gramma would also do well. Your Tang may also appreciate the presence of a cleaner species like the Neon Goby.
