Harlequin Tusk?

16 November 2008 Comments

My Harlequin Tusk died today for no apparent reason. Are these hard to keep fish? I had him for a good two weeks and he was eating fine. Could my long tentacle anenome have stung him? He is in a 120 fish only tank with eco system. Everyone else is fine. Naso Tang, Baby Humu, Large Dragon Wrasse, Male and Female Birdwrasse, Large Maroon Tang, Foxface, Sailfin Tang and three Chromis.

they are on the sensitive side and I would be concerned over the way they were captured. You have said that he was eating fine but how were his "poops"? If they were on the slimy side his undoing may have had more to do with how he was captured then how you housed him.

It could be strychnine poisoning. It is used in the capture of marine fish and it messes with there intestines. They can survive for several weeks and eat and act fine then one day they are dead. I have had it happen to some of the saltwater fish that I have purchased. I picked my vets (who is an exotics vet) brains about it and he said that is the most likely cause of the fishes demise. You can read up on it on the internet. Harlequin Tusk fish are one of my favorite., but my 80 gallon just isn’t big enough for one.
